MEM – Work Team Service Opportunity
November 16 – November 28, 2017 date change!!
Project: Construction of Phase 1 of the Hacienda Verde School, San Jose, Bolivia
MEM – Bolivia, (Misión Evangélica Menonita), is a partnership of the EMMC, and the EBMC, and associate member EMC conferences. The MEM team is actively ministering to people on colonies in the San Jose area. In the last few years this has included the establishment of Hacienda Verde, a community for people leaving the traditional colony setting. As part of MEM’s vision for helping these families education is a major effort. With that in mind we are beginning construction of the first phase of a permanent school building. We, as the MEM Bolivia staff, are inviting individuals from our supporting conferences to come help with this.
The work will be done on the Hacienda Verde community land on the edge of San Jose, 250 kilometers east of Santa Cruz.
There are enough workers in the San Jose area to do this type of work. But, we are not just interested in the work that will be accomplished. We’re interested in the relationships that result from doing this type of project together. As with the other MEM work in Bolivia, the Hacienda Verde ministry is based on relationships with you, and so we invite you to consider helping.
It’s expected that each team member raise a minimum amount of $3,000 CDN for the trip. (Gifts to member Conferences and identified for this project would be tax deductible). These funds would cover your travel costs, lodging, and food, and would help with the purchase of some of the materials for the project.
The trip is being planned for the group to leave for Bolivia on November 9 and return to Canada on or about November 21, 2017. The majority of your time would be spent in Hacienda Verde and at the MEM Ministry Centre in San Jose. The remainder of the time will be planned activities designed to give you insight into MEM and other ministries among the Low German speaking Mennonites, and to experience the beauty of Bolivia.
We’re looking for a team of about 6 to 8 energetic individuals, preferably with some kind of experience or ability in construction. One additional person would be considered to help with food preparation.
